Frequently Asked Questions

I am ready to prepare to have an amazing birth. How do I sign up?
Registration for all Birth Boot Camp classes can be done in-person with cash or credit card at Lakeside Music and Naturals. The shop is located in downtown Port Washington at 115 N. Franklin Street. Registration can also be done online with a credit or debit card. A $50 non-refundable deposit can be paid to reserve your spot in class, and this can be done either in-person or online. The full amount of tuition is due prior to the start of class. Tuition fees vary based upon the type of class and location where the class is offered.

What should we bring to class?
Dress in comfortable clothing as we will be active throughout each class. Yoga pants are perfectly acceptable!
Bring a full beverage and whatever snacks you desire. We can arrange to each bring in snacks for the whole class to enjoy, but I find that it is often easier to each bring in your own personal snacks, due to so many allergies, food restrictions, etc.
During the first class meeting, you will receive your amazing Birth Boot Camp workbook.  This should be brought to class every week if you are taking a series, as well as writing utensils for taking notes and filling out the workbook.
We will spend the whole class period on the floor. That being said, please bring yoga mats to sit and do exercises upon. We will focus on relaxation each class period, so a couple of pillows and a blanket are beneficial for this. We also utilize stretching with a foam roller (10-week series). I will be doing a short demonstration coupled with a video clip each week pertaining to proper usage of the foam roller.

What can you expect out of a class series?
We will meet on-time each week and class will be held for two to two-and-a-half hours. We will have a break halfway through. Feel free to get up and stretch or go to the bathroom as needed. This is a laid-back class taught in a laid-back environment.
You can expect to receive all of the pertinent information you need to adequately prepare for birth and the immediate postpartum period. This is a hands-on, fun, interactive class that will give you the tools to make informed decisions, which will lead to better birth outcomes. While taking this course will not guarantee you will have the birth you desire, it will greatly increase your chances. Statistically, Birth Boot Camp students have less than a 15% cesarean section rate, which is less than HALF the national average. Of those that birthed vaginally, 78% had an unmedicated birth.
You will be in class with other like-minded couples, which will help give you a solid support system throughout your pregnancy and beyond. I still talk regularly and have play dates with several of the couples from the education courses my love and I took during pregnancy. In fact, a couple of the ladies I would now consider to be some of my closest friends!
We can plan to have a meet-and-greet reunion after all of the class babies are born. It is fun to hear birth stories (if you want to share), meet all the new babies, and of course, eat snacks. :)

What do I expect out of you?
All I ask is that you come prepared to have fun and engage in the class activities. I am not going to require that you complete your workbook, however, you will gain the most out of the class if you do so. I also ask that we try to stay focused on the topics that are to be discussed each week. It is very easy to get sidetracked and we do have A LOT of information to go over!
I also ask that cell phones be silenced during class, unless needed for emergency purposes. Cell phones can be distracting for you, the students, as well as for me, the educator. Photos are only allowed if it is okayed by everyone in the picture.
We will be showing quite a few birth videos throughout the series. I believe viewing them is very beneficial. They are, of course, graphic. That being said, if this does make you extremely uncomfortable to watch this in a class setting, you can step out of the classroom during this time.

What if class needs to be cancelled due to inclement weather or instructor illness?
We do live in Wisconsin where the weather can be quite unpredictable. In case of inclement weather or my own personal illness (as a nurse, I have built up a pretty solid immune system, but hey, you never know...), I will send out a mass email to confirm that class is cancelled. I will also call the number listed as PRIMARY on the registration form you will fill out. If schools are cancelled, odds are our class will be cancelled as well.
If class does have to be cancelled, you will take the class online that week (10-week series) or we will have to reschedule class. If I am running a class at a different location concurrently, you are also able to join in on that class.

What if you need to miss a class?
I do realize that things come up and you may need to miss a class. If so, contact me ahead of time, and I will arrange with corporate to allow you to take that particular class online (10-week series). You can do this for up to two missed classes. While you will gain a lot more from attending live classes, the online classes really are well put together. Once you contact me, you will receive an email stating how you are to access the online class. There will be sign-in information in this email that must be kept in the event you need to take future online "make-up" classes. Please save this email!! You are also able to make up the class in-person, if I am running another class concurrently at a different location.
If you need to miss a class (not 10-week series), there is not an option to make-up online. If I am running a concurrent class, offered on a different day or time or at a different location, you are more than welcome to make-up the class.
